Must possess as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program. If someone is consistently fucking up, they need more education and should be put back on orientation, if appropriate.

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in this. I think charge nurses and managers should be in better communication with who they’re observing making errors in a patterned fashion. I do think nursing school should cut the bullshit and focus intensely more on pharmacology and pathophysiology, just so we’re on the same wavelength as the MDs and have a 10-fold greater grasp on what’s actually going on with the patient. Floor nursing truly should not be difficult. Time management and ridiculous ratios are a different matter. ICU gets a little more complex and I do think we need to hire experienced nurses only into the ICU, possibly longer orientation too. But no, I don’t think we need to go to school for 8 years to be a nurse. I think an alternative curriculum in nursing school and more on the job education/tailored educational opportunities would do everyone some good. I also think nursing school taught me nothing, other than a little knowledge on pharm/patho.
Like I said, I think schools need to focus more on that. It doesn’t assess your readiness to be a nurse and doesn’t actually test real life knowledge. I know great nurses who passed in 250 questions. I know less great nurses that passed in 75. I know nurses that went to school for 2 years who are much smarter than I am.
